The 70th National Film Awards winners were announced on August 16, Celebrating the diversity of Indian cinema, with regional films this time taking center stage. The Malayalam film Aattam: The Play was honored with the Best Feature Film award. For his exceptional performance in KantaraRishab Shetty received the Best Actor award. The Best Actress honor was shared by Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for Kutch ExpressSooraj Barjatya’s Unnchai was recognized as Best Director. Jani Master’s National Film Award Revoked

Choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, widely known as Jani Master, has had his National Film Award for Best Choreography for the Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam revoked following sexual harassment allegations brought against him by his assistant choreographer. The decision comes in the wake of his arrest in Goa earlier this month on charges related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
