Commemorative coin in honour of scientist

Meanwhile at the function to mark MS Swaminathan’s birth centenary, the PM released a commemorative coin and stamp to honour him.

Swaminathan was a renowned Indian geneticist and agricultural scientist, famously known as the “father of the Green Revolution” in India for his pivotal role in transforming Indian agriculture during the 1960s. His efforts led to the introduction of high-yielding variety seeds in India and also modern farming techniques were adopted. This led to significant increase in food production and helped alleviate poverty.
