Nimisha Priya execution: SC orders team to seek govt’s permission to travel to Yemen

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday permitted the private oraganisation  to approach the Central Government seeking permission to travel to Yemen for negotiations to postpone her execution for the murder of a Yemeni national.

The organisation is currently seeking permission to allow a few of its members and a representative of Kerala Sunni Islamic leader Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musaliyar to travel to Yemen to meet the victim’s family to further the negotiations. Efforts are underway to negotiate with the victim’s family to convince them to pardon her after accepting ‘blood money’ as per the Shariat Law. The writ petition filed by Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, was heared by a bench of two judges, Justice Vikram and Sanjeev Mehta, respectively.

Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala, was earlier convicted of murdering her Yemeni business partner, Talal Abdo Mehdi, in 2017. She was sentenced to death, and despite efforts to appeal, her sentence was upheld by Yemen’s higher courts.
