Guru Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Ashadh. The day holds great importance in Indian tradition. It is believed that on this day, Sage Vyasa, who compiled the four Vedas and wrote the Mahabharata, was born. That’s why the day is also known as Vyas Purnima or Vyas Jayanti. People remember Sage Vyasa and other spiritual teachers who have passed on wisdom from one generation to the next.

In temples, ashrams, schools, and homes, students and disciples offer prayers to their gurus, perform pujas, and seek their blessings. Many spiritual organizations hold special satsangs, discourses, and community activities to mark the day.

In modern times, Guru Purnima is not limited to religious or spiritual gurus alone. People also take the opportunity to thank their academic teachers, mentors, and anyone who has guided them in life.
