The voters exercised their right to vote sitting at home in the bye-elections held in 6 Nagar Panchayats of 3 districts in Bihar. According to the Bihar Election Commission, this is a pilot project, the success of which can open up the possibilities for expanding the e-voting system across the country.

The State Election Commissioner called it a historic day. The E-voting facility has been rolled out in the state to enhance voter turnout, said officials. This may be a solution to voter apathy which is a major problem in India, leading to low voter turnout specially in urban areas.
