IMD weather forecast: Rain predicted in Delhi, West Bengal; more downpour likely in Gujarat

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in parts of Gujarat. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to lash parts of Gujarat during the next one week, according to the weather department. Incessant rainfall in Gujarat in the last two days has thrown normal life out of gear in several district, mainly Surat.

Rain to lash Delhi, West BengalJammu weather

Heavy downpour left large parts of Surat waterlogged particularly in the low-lying areas. With the city recording 400mm rainfall in 36 hours, several roads got submerged and residential societies were inundated. The affected people were moved to safer areas with tractors and boats. Heavy rains also left the Tapi river, which passes through the city and various creeks, swollen causing waterlogging in low-lying residential areas.

Rain to lash Delhi, West Bengal

Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain in Delhi for Thursday, with the minimum and maximum temperatures likely to settle around 27 and 34 degrees Celsius, respectively. The Met department also predicted widespread rain over West Bengal with heavy downpour likely in some districts till July 1 due to the likely formation of a low pressure area. The south Bengal districts that may receive heavy rainfall include Purulia, Bankura, West Burdwan, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas. In north Bengal, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, North and South Dinajpur are expected to receive heavy rainfall on June 28.

Jammu weather

In Jammu, relentless rain has wreaked havoc, causing Tawi reiver to swell. On Wednesday, nine people trapped in swollen river were rescued in a joint operation by police and SDRF teams. Heavy rains also hit traffic along Jammu-Srinagar national highway for hours.
