New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over stray cattle menace, an elderly man was gored and trampled to death by stray cows in Maharashtra’s Nashik district. The incident, which occurred in Kalwan town on Monday morning, was captured on CCTV and the disturbing footage has since gone viral on social media.

The victim has been identified as Bhalchandra Raghunath Malpure (80), a retired supply officer from the state revenue department and a resident of Chhatrapati Shivaji Nagar in Kalwan. The attack took place around 11am near Chhatrapati Mangal Karyalaya on Old Otur Road, where a group of stray cows had gathered.

Cows turn aggressive

The CCTV footage shows Malpure getting down from a two-wheeler when two cows suddenly turned aggressive. One of them charged at him, lifting him with its horns and trampling him repeatedly. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene using sticks and loud shouts, the cows continued their assault, injuring another man in the process.

Local residents immediately rushed Malpure to Kalwan Rural Hospital, but he succumbed to injuries sustained to his chest and abdomen during treatment.

Another senior citizen, Aaba More, a retired MSRTC driver, was also injured while trying to help the victim. He is currently undergoing treatment.

Residents demand swift action

Following the incident, police, municipal authorities, and the animal husbandry department have launched an inquiry. Officials stated that action would be taken to identify and remove aggressive stray cattle from public spaces to prevent further such tragedies.

The incident has triggered public anger in Kalwan, with residents demanding swift measures to address the growing stray cattle menace. Locals say stray animals have increasingly become a threat, particularly in busy market areas and residential roads.
