Three to four pilgrims were feared trapped under the debris

Initial reports suggested that three to four pilgrims were feared trapped under the debris. Rescue teams, equipped with high-mast lights, are continuing operations to locate any remaining victims. The terrain and weather conditions have made the task challenging, but officials remain committed to ensuring no one is left behind.

Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya is overseeing the situation from the control room and has directed all concerned agencies to remain on high alert and expedite rescue efforts. 108 ambulances, medical teams, and veterinary personnel have been deployed to the site to assist with the operation and provide immediate care.

Yamunotri trekking route susceptible to landslides during the monsoon

The Yamunotri walking route, a key pilgrimage path in the Chardham Yatra, is particularly susceptible to landslides during the monsoon. This latest tragedy has once again highlighted the risks faced by pilgrims during the rainy season. Authorities have urged travelers to check weather updates before embarking on the trek and to follow all safety advisories issued by the administration.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured that all necessary rescue and relief measures are being taken. “I pray for the well-being of all those affected,” he said in a statement. As the monsoon continues to intensify across Uttarakhand, officials are urging extreme caution for those undertaking high-altitude pilgrimages. The rescue operation at Yamunotri remains ongoing.
