Dehradun: Uttarakhand is witnessing a rainy weather with clouds blanketing the state from the mountains to the plains and heavy rainfall lashing several districts, particularly in the Kumaon region. According to the IMD, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places in Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, and Rudraprayag, while many other districts are also expected to receive scattered showers. The arrival of the southwest monsoon is anticipated later this week, bringing further relief from the prolonged summer heat.

Kumaon have been experiencing intense rainfall

The mountainous districts of Kumaon have been experiencing intense rainfall, with areas like Ranikhet, Tanakpur, Didihat, Berinag, and Dwarahat reporting continuous downpours. The rain has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures, offering respite from the humidity but also raising concerns about landslides and waterlogging in vulnerable zones.

In Pauri, heavy showers were recorded across most areas, while Mussoorie and Vikasnagar also witnessed significant rainfall. The sudden change in weather brought a chill to the air, especially in the hill stations, where residents reported a sharp dip in temperature.

Dehradun sees intermittent showers

In the capital city of Dehradun, the day began with partly cloudy skies, followed by light showers in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was recorded at 34.8°C, while the minimum dipped to 22.2°C, both hovering around seasonal norms. The hide-and-seek between sunshine and clouds continued throughout the day, offering brief relief from the humidity. While Udham Singh Nagar stood at 33.0°C and 24.1°C. In the hills, Mukteshwar was notably cooler at 22.2°C and 15.4°C, and New Tehri registered 26.5°C and 16.5°C.

Monsoon on the horizon

The IMD has indicated that monsoon conditions are developing, and its official onset in Uttarakhand is expected within the week. Until then, partly cloudy skies with intermittent showers will likely persist, especially along the Char Dham Yatra routes, where pilgrims are advised to remain cautious due to slippery paths and potential disruptions.

With the yellow alert in place, residents and travelers are urged to stay updated on weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel in hilly areas, and take precautions against lightning and strong winds.
