During the excavation, the soil gave way, and the houses collapsed one after another. The sudden collapse felt like an earthquake, and people barely had time to react.

Casualties and rescue work

So far, three people have died in the accident. The deceased have been identified as Totaram (38), and two sisters, Yashoda (6) and Kavya (3). Four others have been rescued from the debris, and around 10 to 12 people are still feared to be trapped.

As soon as the information was received, teams from the police, municipal corporation, fire brigade, and local administration reached the spot. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the entire area has been sealed off to help in relief work.

The police have started questioning locals to understand the cause of the accident. Many believe that the excavation in the open plot weakened the soil structure, causing the homes to collapse.
