‘Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families’: Tata Chairman on Air India crash

New Delhi: Minutes after an Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad, Tata Chairman N. Chandrasekaran expressed his “profound sorrow” over the accident. He also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those who were affected by the “devastating event”. He assured that an “emergency centre has been activated” following the tragedy.

A London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed soon after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport. The flight was en route to Gatwick Airport in London.

The official X profile of Tata Group posted a statement from N. Chandrasekaran about the horrific crash in Ahmedabad.  In the statement, N. Chandrasekaran said: “With profound sorrow I confirm that Air India Flight 171 operating Ahmedabad London Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of all those affected by this devastating event. At this moment, our primary focus is on supporting all the affected people and their families. We are doing everything in our power to assist the emergency response teams at the site and to provide all necessary support and care to those impacted.”

“Further updates will be shared as we receive more verified information. An emergency centre has been activated and support team have been set up for families seeking information,” he added.

Fire services and other agencies swung into action and rushed to the crash site in Ahmedabad. Three teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), consisting of 90 personnel, have also been deployed from Gandhinagar to the site of the plane crash.
