Bengaluru: In a major decision, the Karnataka Government’s health department has announced the deaths of patients with comorbidities will not be regarded as Covid deaths, even when they are tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Till now, the state government was considering those with comorbidities contracting the virus as Covid deaths. Issuing new guidelines, the state government said that from now on, such cases won’t be treated as deaths due to Covid. It said that patients who die without comorbidities, and die due to COVID-19, will be included in COVID-19 deaths officially.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reviewed the state’s preparedness for COVID on Wednesday. He also assured the people that there was no cause for concern even as precautionary measures must be continued. The state has seen over 860 cases in the last 10 days, ‘The New Indian Express’ reported.

While chairing a high-level meeting, the CM said that testing has been increased across the state, with an average of 500 samples tested this month on a daily basis. Over 5,000 samples were tested in the last 10 days, which resulted in a deduction of 862 positive cases.

The chief minister further clarified that 11 deaths have been reported among positive cases. Of them, 10 deaths were not due to Covid. “Patients with pre-existing health conditions have died. There should be no unnecessary confusion about Covid-related deaths,” the paper quoted him as saying.
