New Delhi: A horrific incident unfolded on Monday morning on the Thane local train route, as five individuals initially, and later confirmed to be thirteen, tragically fell from a densely packed local train between Diva and Mumbra around 9 AM. Disturbing visuals circulating online depict the grim scene of passengers lying scattered across the tracks.

Authorities have confirmed that out of the thirteen individuals who fell, four have tragically lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries. The injured are currently receiving urgent medical attention at Thane General Hospital and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, with the Maharashtra government overseeing their care.

Among the injured, Shiva Gawli (23) and Anil More (40) are in critical condition and have been transferred to Jupiter Hospital. Others recovering at Shivaji Maharaj Hospital include Aadesh Bhoir (26) from Adhgaon, Rihan Sheikh (26) from Bhiwandi, Tushar Bhagat (22) from Titwala, Manish Saroj (26) from Diva Sabegaon, Machhindra Gotarne (39) from Vashind, and two women, Sneha Dhonde (21) from Titwala and Priyanka Bhatia (26) from Shahad, Kalyan, all reported to be in stable condition.

The deceased have been identified as Ketan Dilip Saroj (23) from Ulhasnagar, Rahul Santosh Gupta, Vicky Babasaheb Mukhidal (34), who was a Railway Police employee, and one unidentified.

In response to this accident, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers have expressed profound grief for the victims’ families. They have affirmed that the state government is ensuring all necessary medical support for the injured, with local administration actively coordinating assistance.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has been in direct communication with hospital doctors to ensure optimal care, while Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar highlighted the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in public transport, specifically highlighting chronic overcrowding as a critical factor compromising passenger safety. The Railway Department has promptly launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of this tragic accident.
