New Delhi: In a significant development, Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir on June 6 and inaugurate the world’s largest bridge on River Chenab. Sharing the message on X, the minister noted that the bridge has been built to withstand nature’s toughest tests.

Taking to his social media account, the minister wrote, “History in the making… Just 3 days to go! The mighty Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge, stands tall in Jammu and Kashmir. Part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL), it is built to withstand nature’s toughest tests.”

As per officials, the bridge has been engineered to withstand winds up to 260 mph. While the bridge has been designed for a lifespan of 120 years, it has already mandatory tests like extreme temperatures, high-velocity winds, earthquakes, and hydrological impacts. The bridge is situated in the Reasi district of the Union Territory.

Importantly, the bridge has an arch-shaped design, which makes it an architectural marvel. This arch is made of steel. It is one of the important structural elements of the bridge. Also, the arch bridge has 17 spans. The linear length of the main arch span is 460 metres, which is curvilinear.

During his visit on June 6, the Prime Minister is expected to flag off the train from Katra to Kashmir Valley. Sharing the information, officials said, “The Prime Minister could flag off the Vande Bharat train services from Katra in Jammu division to Baramulla on June 6. All preparations for the train services have been given the final touches.”
