‘Narendra, Surrender’: Rahul Gandhi claims PM Modi yielded to Donald Trump’s pressure for ceasefire during Operation Sindoor

New Delhi: In a scathing address at a party convention in Bhopal, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “surrendered” during the India-Pakistan ceasefire in ‘Operation Sindoor’ after receiving a call from former US President Donald Trump.

Mocking the BJP-RSS, Gandhi declared, “Put even a little pressure on the BJP-RSS people, and they get scared and run away. Donald Trump called from there and said – Narender.. surrender. Here, Narendra Modi followed Trump’s gesture by saying ‘Yes Sir’.”

Gandhi drew a stark contrast with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s resolute stance during the 1971 crisis, recalling how she firmly asserted, “I will do what needs to be done,” even when faced with the advancing US Seventh Fleet. He asserted that the Congress Party, unlike the BJP-RSS, does not “surrender,” citing the legacies of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel as examples of those who fought against superpowers.

” The Congress Party does not surrender. Gandhiji, Nehruji, Sardar Patelji – these are not people who surrender, but people who fight against superpowers,” Gandhi said.

These allegations, Trump’s involvement in a ceasefire, were refuted by India soon after the US President made the claims. Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) swiftly refuted Rahul Gandhi’s narrative.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified that the cessation of firing during ‘Operation Sindoor’ (which commenced on May 7 and paused on May 10) was decided through direct contacts between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan. Jaiswal acknowledged that conversations did take place between India and the US regarding the evolving military situation, but explicitly stated that “the issue of tariffs never came up during the discussion.”
