The high-altitude areas, including Hemkund Sahib and Kedarnath, witnessed snowfall and heavy rain, bringing a cooling effect to the region.

Weather conditions across Uttarakhand

The mountainous districts are expected to see light to moderate rain, with heavy showers forecasted in Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. The storm warning includes wind speeds of up to 50 km/h, which could impact travel and outdoor activities.

Meanwhile, Dehradun and surrounding areas will also see cloudy skies and light to moderate rain. The Char Dham region saw light showers, and Kedarnath Dham experienced evening rainfall, increasing the chill in the air.

Snowfall in higher peaks

On Sunday, Hemkund Sahib and nearby areas received fresh snowfall, adding to the scenic beauty but also posing challenges for pilgrims. The rainfall in Kedarnath has further lowered temperatures, making the weather cooler for visitors.

Pre-Monsoon effects & upcoming forecast

The Meteorological Department attributes the current weather patterns to pre-monsoon activity, which is expected to continue until June 6. After this period, temperatures will rise again, bringing hotter conditions before the monsoon arrives around June 10. Once the monsoon sets in, Uttarakhand will experience widespread rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, affecting both hilly and plain regions. Authorities have advised residents and travelers to remain cautious, especially in storm-prone areas. There are rain and thunderstorm expected on Char Dham Yatra route so pilgrims are also advised to remain alert during the pilgrimage.

Precautions & advisory

Residents and tourists are advised to stay updated on weather alerts, especially in high-altitude areas where rain and snowfall could impact travel routes. The yellow alert for thunderstorms suggests strong winds, so caution is necessary for outdoor activities and transportation. With monsoon approaching, Uttarakhand’s weather patterns will shift, bringing cooler temperatures and increased rainfall. Travelers should plan accordingly, ensuring safety and preparedness for changing conditions.
