The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Nainital, Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar, warning of intense thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.

Weather shift across the state

After a hot and humid day in Dehradun on Wednesday, the temperature dropped significantly following heavy evening showers. The maximum temperature fell to 34°C, bringing relief from the sweltering heat. Similar conditions were observed in Haridwar, where rainfall helped cool the atmosphere.

Despite the temporary relief, the weather remains unstable, with cloud cover and intermittent showers expected across the state. Light to moderate rain is likely in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Chamoli, Almora, Nainital, and Champawat, while Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar may experience sporadic rainfall.

Impact of rainfall on infrastructure

The Smart City project in Dehradun, which has left several roads dug up, has worsened conditions during rainfall. Waterlogging has been reported in multiple areas, making it difficult for pedestrians and vehicles to navigate. Residents faced muddy streets and disrupted movement as rainwater mixed with loose soil, creating hazardous conditions. Additionally, the electricity load in Dehradun reduced slightly due to the rain, offering temporary relief from power fluctuations.

Temperature & forecast

The Meteorological Center predicts continued unstable weather for the next few days. Winds at speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected in hilly districts, adding to the stormy conditions. Authorities have advised residents and travelers to stay alert, especially in mountainous regions where landslides and road blockages could occur due to heavy rainfall.

Farmers affected by hail storms will receive compensation, as announced by Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi. The state government is monitoring crop damage, with daily reports being sent to the Ministry. So far, 5,236 hectares of agricultural land have been affected, with 3,358 hectares suffering over 33% damage.

Rainfall is expected to continue

With rainfall expected to continue, residents should prepare for fluctuating weather and follow official advisories. The next few days will bring a mix of sunshine, cloud cover, and intermittent showers, keeping Uttarakhand’s weather dynamic and unpredictable.
