New Delhi: A storm of controversy is brewing in Maharashtra’s political landscape, with serious allegations of domestic abuse levelled against Siddhant Shirsat, son of Sanjay Shirsat, a prominent cabinet minister in the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena government.
A legal notice, served through lawyer Chandrakant Thombare, accuses Siddhant of cheating, inflicting both mental and physical harassment, and demanding dowry from his wife, identified as Janhvi.
The notice demands the immediate registration of a case against Siddhant, citing charges of mental and physical harassment, cheating, intimidation, and dowry-related offences under relevant sections and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. According to Thombare, Janhvi and Siddhant were married two years ago in a private ceremony in a Chembur flat owned by Janhvi’s father. While the initial period was seemingly amicable, the situation drastically deteriorated when Siddhant allegedly began a relationship with another woman, subsequently ignoring Janhvi and subjecting her to emotional blackmail and mental torture.
The lawyer further alleges that Janhvi was consistently prevented from visiting Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, where Sanjay Shirsat holds the position of guardian minister, facing threats if she attempted to do so.
The lawyer asserts that Janhvi was instead forced to remain in Mumbai, where the alleged abuse and mistreatment continued. Thombare issued an ultimatum, demanding that Siddhant take action within seven days to resolve the situation and prevent further legal action. He threatened to file three separate cases against Siddhant, including one under the stringent Women’s Atrocities Act, if no satisfactory response is received.
