Gaurav Gogoi responds to Himanta Biswa Sarma’s ISI invite charge, questions CM’s mental state

New Delhi: Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday responded to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s charge that he visited Pakistan on an invitation by ISI. He termed the remarks as insane and nonsense.

Gogoi questions Sarma’s mental state

In a series of posts on social media platform, ‘X’, Gogoi called the remarks made by the Assam CM “insane and nonsense”. He also questioned the mental health of Sarma. In his post on ‘X’, he said, “I am worried about the health of the Chief Minister of Assam. It is often said that when there is something bothering at home, it reflects in the mental state of the person. We will ensure that after 2026 he gets to have some rest.”

He claimed that Sarma has been targeting him for 13 years now. He said that for some reason, ever since his (Gogoi’s) entry into Assam, he has been on the radar of Sarma. He accused the BJP leader of having made baseless remarks against him in the past as well. He termed the recent remarks of the CM, of Gogoi having got an invitation from ISI, as “bordering on insanity and outright absurd”.

He said that the Congress will ensure that Sarma gets some rest after 2026, referring to the Assembly Elections in the state which are scheduled for next year.

In another post, he called Sarma’s reaction worse than a B grade film. He claimed that in order to cover one lie, the CM is taking recourse to multiple lies. Calling Sarma a troll, Gogoi wrote, “He is not giving out any facts and simply behaving like an IT cell troll. A Chief Minister should not be a troll. If he has any facts supporting his most recent allegation he should put it out in public domain. The farce cannot be hidden for too long.”

The 2 Assam leaders are at loggerheads ever since Himanta Biswa Sarma questioned Gogoi’s inclusion in a multi-party delegation to foreign countries. Earlier Sarma had highlighted a 2-week stay of Gogoi in Pakistan and also accused his wife of being associated with a Pakistan-based NGO and drawing salary in India. On Sunday he went a step further and claimed that Gogoi visited the neighbouring country on an invitation of the ISI.
