‘Fabricated allegations’: Congress’ Jairam Ramesh slams BJP over USAID funding controversy

New Delhi: Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has levelled serious accusations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging the politicisation of Operation Sindoor. His criticism stems from the Prime Minister’s scheduled meeting on May 25 with only Chief Ministers from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This exclusion of Chief Ministers from non-NDA governed states, including Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, has been highlighted by Ramesh as a clear demonstration of political bias in handling matters of national security.

Ramesh’s statement underscores a broader concern regarding the Prime Minister’s approach to governance. He points to a pattern of inaction on crucial national issues, citing the Prime Minister’s avoidance of all-party meetings, failure to respond to correspondence, and refusal to convene a special session of Parliament. This inaction, he argues, stands in stark contrast to the active engagement with NDA Chief Ministers regarding Operation Sindoor.

The Congress party has issued a strong condemnation of the Prime Minister’s actions. They view the selective engagement as an unacceptable level of political interference in a sensitive operation. The party’s concerns were discussed at a meeting attended by approximately 23 senior Congress leaders, including the Congress President and members of the CWC. This meeting underscores the gravity with which the Congress party views these allegations. The selective approach, Ramesh argues, not only undermines national unity but also risks compromising the effectiveness of Operation Sindoor itself.
