India-Pakistan conflict: CCTV footage shows shelling in Jammu’s Punch

New Delhi: The India-Pakistan border witnessed a significant escalation in tensions following a series of attacks and retaliatory strikes. The conflict began with a retaliatory strike by India after the Pulwama terror attack and has since spiralled into an undeclared war. On the night of May 7 and 8, Pakistan launched multiple drone and missile attacks targeting multiple locations across northern and western India.

A CCTV footage from a residence in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, captures evidence of Pakistani shelling that occurred on May 7. The video reveals attempts by Pakistan to escalate tensions, which the country has denied. Other targeted locations included strategic installations in Punjab. The attacks affected areas such as Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, and Ludhiana.

The cross-border shelling and missile strikes, according to reports, have resulted in significant civilian casualties, including 12 deaths and 57 injuries in Poonch due to Pakistani artillery fire, highlighting the severe impact on local communities. The shelling also damaged the homes of villagers living near the LOC. India responded to this act of aggression with proportionate force, silencing the Pakistani guns and restoring a degree of calm.

India’s integrated air defence system, notably the domestically produced Akash surface-to-air missile system, proved highly effective in intercepting and neutralising the Pakistani projectiles. The Indian Ministry of Defence reported no casualties or material damage on its side as a result of these attacks. Following the Pakistani attacks, India responded swiftly with retaliatory strikes. These strikes targeted Pakistani air defence radar systems in Lahore, significantly weakening Pakistan’s defensive capabilities in a key city.
