New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired the meeting of the Union Cabinet and praised the armed forces for successfully conducting ‘Operation Sindoor’ in nine locations of terror groups LeT and JeM in Pakistan. During the meeting, ministers expressed confidence in the leadership of PM Modi and said that all countries stood by him.

Earlier in the day, he was briefed by Deference Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on the operation. The Prime Minister had also also monitored the airstrike since last night.

The Prime Minister will also chair a Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS) meeting to take stock of the situation after the airstrike. During the meeting, the committee is likely to pass a resolution on ‘Operation Sindoor’. The operation was carried out in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed and several others were injured.

Earlier, the Prime Minister had given Indian defence forces the freedom to decide the mode of operations and conduct strikes on locations chosen by them.

Addressing a press conference this morning, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that it was felt necessary that perpetrators and planners of the April 22 attack be brought to book. “Our intelligence monitoring of Pakistan-based terrorist modules indicated that further attacks against India were impending,” news agency PTI quoted him as saying at the briefing, which was also addressed by Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.

“Despite a fortnight having passed since the attack, there has been no demonstrable step from Pakistan to take action against the terrorist infrastructure on its territory or territory under its control. Instead, all it has indulged in is denial and allegations,” he said.
