‘Rioters are being brought to Bengal from outside’: Mamata Banerjee alleges in Murshidabad

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday claimed that outsiders were being brought into the state to foment violence. She asked the people not to get swayed by the divisive agenda of the “BJP or religious fundamentalists”.

Mamata said this while speaking at a government event in Murshidabad. The CM underlined that the Waqf Act would not be implemented in Bengal.

The CM alleged that rioters were being brought to West Bengal from outside. “Do not get provoked by them… Do not create division among yourselves listening to the BJP or any religious fundamentalists,” she added.

She exhorted the public to avoid engaging in violent protests over the Waqf Act. Mamata said that there was no question of (implementing) the Act in Bengal.

Mamata is on a two-day visit to Murshidabad district, which was rocked by violent clashes in April during protests against the Waqf Amendment Act. Dhuliyan, Samserganj, and Suti witnessed violence during the agitation, in which three people were killed and several injured.

She meets affected families

On the second day of her visit to the riot-hit region, she landed in Samserganj by helicopter and interacted with the affected families at the local block development office. During her visit, security was tightened in the area.

On Monday, the CM had fired salvos at BJP-ruled Centre while reacting to the Pahalgam attack. She said, “Instead of creating communal tensions, please take care of the borders. Please take care of India. We love India, please save India from any disaster. Give justice to the people who have lost their loved ones.”

“Don’t play dirty politics; I am the last one to tolerate dirty politics. I have seen 10-12 Prime Ministers and worked with them. I want to tell the ‘acting’ Prime Minister to take care of the borders instead of taking care of communal riots. When you are in the chair, you cannot divide the people…,” she had pointed out.
