New Delhi: In a spate of high-level meetings following the April 22 terror attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met defence secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. This comes a day after Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, also met Prime Minister Modi. The back-to-back high-level meetings are taking place amid speculation over how India will respond to the Pahalgam terror attack.

PM Modi has earlier warned that those responsible for orchestrating and executing the terror attack “will face a punishment they cannot imagine”. India has already taken a series of diplomatic measures aimed at Pakistan. These include suspending visa services for Pakistani nationals, downsizing Pakistan’s diplomatic presence in India, and suspending the Indus Water Treaty.

Pakistan, in its response, has warned that any disruption of water flows from India would be considered an “act of war”.

Over the past fortnight, Prime Minister Modi has chaired multiple security reviews with key members of his Cabinet, including home minister Amit Shah and defence minister Rajnath Singh, along with top officials from India’s security establishment. Dropping a broad hint on Sunday, Singh reassured the public, stating, “What you desire will certainly happen under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.”
