As the yatra progresses, the government and local authorities are ensuring that all arrangements align with the tradition of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’, reinforcing Uttarakhand’s reputation as a land of spiritual hospitality.

Devotion at its peak

Since the Char Dham yatra commenced on 30 April this year, and portals of Badrinath were thrown open for devotees yesterday, on 4 May, thousands have embarked on this deeply spiritual expedition, marking their journey with prayers and chants. Out of the total pilgrims, 79,699 have visited Kedarnath, while 48,194 have reached Yamunotri, and 37,739 have offered prayers at Gangotri. The serene environment, combined with the sanctity of the shrines, has elevated the experience of every devotee who has set foot on this divine trail.

Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj expressed his joy over the rising enthusiasm, urging travelers to cooperate with local authorities and prioritize health precautions during their journey. Recognizing the challenges of high-altitude terrain, he encouraged pilgrims to consult a doctor beforehand and carry essential medicines to avoid health complications caused by low oxygen levels in the Himalayas.

Support for pilgrims & hospitality measures

The government has reinforced its commitment to safe and comfortable pilgrimage, ensuring that medical aid, accommodations, and necessary facilities are readily available. GMVN guest houses have already processed bookings worth Rs 11.84 crore, demonstrating the strong influx of devotees arriving from all corners of the country.

Satpal Maharaj emphasized the importance of upholding Uttarakhand’s rich tradition of hospitality, urging both locals and authorities to welcome devotees with warmth and respect, adhering to the spirit of Atithi Devo Bhava. He extended congratulations to the newly appointed President of the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee, Hemant Dwivedi, along with Vice President Rishi Prasad Sati and Vijay Kaparvan, wishing them success in their roles overseeing the sacred sites.

Pilgrimage surge & future projections

With 24.38 lakh pilgrims already registered, the state expects even greater numbers as the season progresses. Authorities are closely monitoring the weather conditions, ensuring that pilgrims receive timely advisories and route updates to maintain smooth transit across the high-altitude shrines.
