Dehradun: Tomorrow, April 30, marks the auspicious commencement of Uttarakhand’s Char Dham Yatra 2025, a spiritual journey cherished by millions of devotees from across the world. The pilgrimage to the four sacred sites—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—will begin with the ceremonial opening of the portals at Yamunotri and Gangotri, coinciding with Akshaya Tritiya, a day of eternal prosperity and divine blessings.

The Grand Opening: Welcoming Pilgrims to Gangotri and Yamunotri
The Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams will be the first to open their doors to devotees, signaling the start of the yatra. These two sacred sites represent the origins of the holy rivers Ganga and Yamuna, which are revered for their purifying powers. The ceremonial rituals marking the opening of these portals are performed in the presence of priests, devotees, and temple authorities, creating an atmosphere of devotion and spiritual connection.
Tomorrow’s event will witness pilgrims embarking on a clockwise route, which is traditional for the Char Dham Yatra, starting from Yamunotri, moving to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally concluding at Badrinath. The portals for Kedarnath will open on May 2, while Badrinath will welcome devotees starting May 4.
The Kedarnath Journey: Baba Kedar’s Procession to His Sacred Abode
The anticipation for Lord Kedarnath’s darshan has reached its peak as his Panchmukhi Chal Vigraha Utsav Doli begins its final journey to the Kedarnath Dham from its winter seat, Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath. After months of waiting, thousands of devotees gathered to witness this spiritual spectacle, symbolizing Baba Kedar’s journey to his holy abode.
Special rituals were conducted at Omkareshwar Temple to bless the movable idol of Lord Kedarnath, followed by a ceremonial procession. The Doli Yatra, accompanied by an Army band and a throng of devoted pilgrims, reached Guptkashi Vishwanath Temple for its first night stay. It will continue to Phata on April 29, then to Gaurikund on April 30, and finally arrive at Kedarnath on May 1, ahead of the temple’s grand opening on May 2 at 7:15 a.m.
Streamlined Registration Process: Online and Offline Systems
In preparation for the influx of visitors, the government introduced mandatory registration for all pilgrims starting March 20, 2025, ensuring better management and safety. While the majority of registrations were completed online, offline counters have now opened at various halts, providing flexibility for last-minute devotees. This dual registration system reflects the administration’s commitment to making the pilgrimage accessible and seamless.
Crowd Management: A Focus on Comfort and Safety
With the portals set to open, authorities anticipate 10 lakh pilgrims arriving in the first month alone. Special measures have been implemented to manage the crowds, including accommodation facilities for 10,000 travelers at identified halts along the routes. Enhanced security arrangements, including CCTV installations, medical facilities, and gender-specific lodging options, aim to make the pilgrimage safe and spiritually enriching. Local authorities and volunteers are stationed at all yatra stops to assist devotees with registrations, navigation, and emergencies.
