New Delhi: Following the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, a major counter-terror operation is underway in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces have launched sweeping raids across Doda and Kishtwar, uncovered chilling leads, and traced satellite phone use to safehouses in Muzaffarabad and Karachi. The NIA has now formally taken over the investigation as the crackdown against terror supporters intensifies.
The NIA, in conjunction with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched an immediate and comprehensive investigation. The collaborative effort led to the swift identification of the terrorists and the collection of substantial evidence. This rapid progress is a testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation and intelligence gathering. The attacks’ aftermath witnessed a significant security operation, including widespread raids and search operations across numerous districts in Kashmir. Approximately 11 houses were razed, and around 1800 individuals were detained for questioning, with some arrests made. The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been identified as the group behind the attack.
Despite the initial shock and disruption, Pahalgam is demonstrating remarkable resilience. While the town initially experienced a significant drop in tourism, a gradual return of visitors has been observed. The arrival of tourists, including some Bollywood celebrities, has served to reinforce the message that Kashmir remains a safe and welcoming destination, countering the terrorists’ intent to destabilise the region. This influx and the reopening of shops and restaurants indicate a determined effort to restore normalcy.
The government’s strategy combines decisive action against terrorism with reassuring efforts to restore public confidence. Continuous efforts are underway to ensure complete normalcy returns to the area. However, the situation remains fluid, with the ongoing investigation and security operations continuing. The Indian Army continues to respond effectively to ceasefire violations from Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri and Kupwara sectors. This dual approach, targeting both the immediate threat and the long-term stability of the region, characterises the response to this critical situation.
