Psoriasis: Why allopathy struggles and how Ayurveda offers hope

New Delhi: Psoriasis is more than just a skin condition—it affects a person both physically and emotionally. This autoimmune disease causes red rashes, itching, swelling, and crusty layers to form on the skin. Despite ongoing advancements, modern allopathic medicine still finds it difficult to cure psoriasis completely. Treatments often aim only to manage symptoms rather than eliminate the root cause. But now, Patanjali Ayurveda claims to offer a breakthrough, backed by research, suggesting their remedies could permanently cure the disease.

Let’s explore why allopathy falls short and how Patanjali Ayurveda claims to have found a natural solution.

Why allopathy fails to offer a cure

Allopathy classifies psoriasis as an autoimmune disorder, where the body’s own immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells. The treatments mainly include topical creams to ease itching or steroids to reduce inflammation. However, these offer only temporary relief, once the medications are stopped, the symptoms often return.

Long-term use of allopathic medicines, especially steroids, can lead to side effects like liver or kidney issues and thinning of the skin. Because of this, doctors describe the treatment as “management” rather than a cure.

Patanjali Ayurveda’s approach to psoriasis

According to Patanjali Ayurveda, the real cause of psoriasis lies in internal toxins and a weak digestive system. Ayurveda considers it a type of “kustha” (a broad term for skin diseases, including leprosy). The treatment focuses on cleansing the body from within and restoring internal balance.

1. Detoxification

The first step is to cleanse the body. Herbs like Triphala, Giloy, Harad, and Baheda are used to boost digestion and flush out toxins. This internal cleansing is believed to help control the root cause of psoriasis.

2. Herbal skin care

For skin relief, Patanjali uses specially prepared oils and pastes made from neem, turmeric, manjistha, khadir, aloe vera, and pure cow ghee. These ingredients are known for their cooling and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to soothe the skin naturally.

3. Panchakarma therapy

Patanjali also emphasizes Panchakarma therapy at its wellness centers. This Ayurvedic detox process purifies the body and helps regulate the immune system, aiming to prevent further flare-ups.

4. Diet and lifestyle changes

Patients are also advised to follow a strict Ayurvedic diet—avoiding spicy, oily, and processed foods. Alongside this, regular yoga, pranayam (breathing exercises), and meditation are recommended to reduce mental stress, which can often worsen skin conditions.

Through this holistic approach—targeting the body and mind—Patanjali Ayurveda claims it is possible to treat psoriasis from the root, offering new hope to those living with the disease.
