Bengal violence: ISF demands repeal of (Waqf Amendment Act), supporters clash with Kolkata police

New Delhi: As things looked to be control in Murshidabad amid the intense protests observed in West Bengal, tensions escalated in other regions as the supporters of the Indian Secular Front (ISF) demanded the repeal of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The protestors from the ISF group reportedly clashed with the police in the Bhangar area near to Kolkata. The ISF gathering was organised by Bhangar MLA Nawshad Siddique, who is the current chairman of the ISF.

However, the Kolkata Police didn’t allow the ISF supporters to hold their gatherings and launched baton charge on them to disperse the mob from Basanti Highway, which is considered to be an important aerial road connecting the capital city to other districts of South Bengal.

According to a report by The Hindu, police removed the vehicles and later stopped the protestors from reaching Sealdah in central Kolkata. During the altercation between police and the protestors, a few people were injured in the clashes. The ISF MLA asked the supporters to not use any other flag except the national flag during their march from Sealdah to Esplanade.
