Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is all set to dedicate the final stretch of 20.5 km long “JP Ganga Path” on Thursday connecting Digha in east to Didarganj in west of the state capital.
Kumar will dedicate the final stretch of from Kangan Ghat to Didarganj tomorrow as the Path, which has been named after the veteran socialist leader Jaya Prakash Narayan by the Nitish government, has already been made operational till Kangan Ghat.
Both the Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin, former union minister and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, legislators Sanjeev Chourasia and Arun Kumar Sinha will be present on the occasion.
Makes travel smooth and easier to reach PMCH, Patna University, civil court
Path, which runs along the river Ganga on its southern bank, has been benefitted Patnaites immensely as it saves time in reaching PMCH, Patna University, civil court, Gandhi setu besides reaching AIIMS, Patna and other important destinations- like several tourist, religious places- has also become easier.
The 20.5 km long Path has provided connectivity at seven points to enter into city such as Atal Path, LCT ghat, Gandhi Maidan near AN Sinha Institute, PMCH, Krishna Ghat, Gaighat, Kangan Ghat and Patna Ghat.
The state government has also given its nod to provide connectivity with JP Ganga Path from a road being built over Mandiri Nala in the state capital besides giving approval for construction of a down ramp at Gaighat.
Path extended upto Bihta in western part; Mokama in eastern side of Patna
During his “Pragati Yatra”, Chief Minister had announced that the Ganga Path will be extended upto Koilwar bridge at Bihta on western side of the state capital while in eastern side, the Path will be extended upto Mokama via Fatuha, Bakhtiyarpur, Barh.
Currently, the Path has provided connectivity with two bridges – JP Setu and Gandhi setu – making travel easier and smooth between north and south Bihar. It will also provide connectivity with the other three bridges being built over river Ganges in near future. Besides, the Path’s importance has further increased as it passes through the Patna ring road.
The Ganga Path has not only become a lifeline for people commuting from east to west and vice versa but has also developed as a picnic spot for Patnaites who throng in large numbers to spend their evenings with road side vendors selling their delicacies, eaking out their livelihoods.
The state government has approved the proposal for developing integrated park along the JP Ganga path right upto Gandhi Maidan from Digha end.
Background
The foundation stone for the Ganga Path project was laid down by the Nitish government on October 11, 2013 at a cost Rs 3831 crore.
The construction of the 20.5 km ambitious project was completed in a phased manner. The first stretch of 7.5 km from Digha to PMCH was dedicated to the public on June 24, 2022 and subsequently, other stretches were dedicated to the public in three phases.
