Patna: Bihar’s power distribution companies have set a new benchmark in revenue collection, recording a total of Rs 17,114 crore for the financial year 2024-25. The remarkable achievement marks a 13.27% increase from the previous fiscal year, with NBPDCL collecting Rs 7,937 crore and SBPDCL contributing Rs 9,177 crore.

Energy Minister Shri Bijendra Prasad Yadav attributed this milestone to the proactive participation of consumers in timely bill payments, coupled with the state government’s progressive policies and strong leadership under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He acknowledged the efforts of energy department officials, engineers and staff members, who played a key role in improving revenue collection through better billing efficiency, consumer service enhancements and an effective grievance redressal system.

Energy Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal emphasized that improved billing and collection efficiency has enabled the state to maintain uninterrupted power supply without imposing additional financial burdens on consumers. He highlighted that due to the strong revenue performance, electricity tariffs were reduced in the previous year, and further reductions have been introduced this year. Rural consumers using more than 50 units now pay 54 paise less per unit, while rural smart meter users benefit from a 79 paise reduction. In urban areas, smart prepaid meter users enjoy a 25 paise per unit cut.

The record revenue collection is also attributed to reduction in Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses, timely completion of loss reduction projects under RDSS, and the widespread implementation of smart prepaid meters. Additionally, government departments such as Health, Education, Panchayati Raj, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering contributed through centralized payments, further strengthening the financial health of the power distribution companies.
