Delhi govt incurred losses of over Rs 2,000 crore due to liquor policy: CAG report

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is all set to present the Comptroller and Audit General (CAG) audit report on “Prevention of Air Pollution from Vehicles. The report will be presented in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday (April 1).

As the budget session of Delhi Assembly will resume, the discussions, which were issued under Rule 280, will have to be presented after being tabled on the CAG report. This was the eighth report after the Assembly tabled seven reports on March 28 related to the liquor policy, health, performance of DTC, two on finance accounts and other two on appropriation accounts.

In a recent session of the Assembly, the Delhi CM made an accusation on the previous government of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over mismanagement of finances. She alleged that the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) saw a massive loss of Rs 70,471 crore.

Furthermore, she criticised the previous administration for their handling of partnership with IDFC, which was a DTC partner agency. Gupta said that IDFC advised the Delhi Government to purchase its shares, but the offer was never explored.

She questioned the previous government for not investing smartly. The current Delhi CM also pointed out the inefficiency of staff given that 4000 bus drivers were paid salaries despite lack of operational buses. She promised for having better data-driven account for issuing free women travel card to the concerned passengers. Her goal aimed at making DTC a revenue generator.

A draft report on a 2021 emission inventory by TERI pointed out that vehicles are the largest emitters of PM 2.5 in Delhi, making up around 47% or 9.6 kt/year (kilotonnes per year) of the total estimated PM 2.5 emission of 20.32 kt/year.
