Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences Celebrates World Kidney Day

New Delhi: The Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi marked World Kidney Day with a special event dedicated to raising awareness about kidney health and the institute’s comprehensive kidney care services. The event, held at ILBS, was part of a global campaign to educate the public, caregivers, policymakers, and the government about the importance of kidney health and the prevention of kidney disease.

The inaugural function welcomed a diverse audience, including the public, hospital staff, patients and their caregivers, media representatives, and esteemed guests.

Professor SK Sarin, Chancellor & Director of ILBS, extended a warm welcome to the attendees. He provided an overview of the comprehensive facilities available at ILBS for the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, including the state-of-the-art dialysis unit, CRRT, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation services.

Dr. RP Mathur, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Nephrology & Kidney Transplant, spoke about the significance of World Kidney Day and stressed the importance of preventing kidney diseases.

The event’s Chief Guest, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Delhi, expressed his appreciation for the high standard of patient care at ILBS and providing support for the liver and kidney transplant programs for the GNCTD.

He stated that with the introduction of Ayushman Bharat scheme, the patients of advanced liver and kidney diseases will be greatly benefitted. He assured ILBS of the government’s full support for initiatives focused on the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases, as well as future endeavours to enhance patient services.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh unveiled a poster showcasing the “Journey of Excellence in Kidney Care at ILBS” and presented awards to recognize the best technicians.

The program also featured personal stories. Mrs. Seema Shukla shared her transformative experience of receiving a deceased donor kidney transplant at ILBS after undergoing dialysis for approximately six years. Mr. Fardeen recounted his joy and experience of donating a kidney to his mother.

Adding a touch of light-heartedness to the event, renowned Hasyakavi, Shri Ved Prakash Ved entertained the audience with his humorous poems, demonstrating the healing power of laughter.
