New Delhi: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ programme at Vansi-Borsi in Navsari district of Gujarat. More than 1.1 lakh women are expected to participate in the event. The ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme aims to empower women by helping them achieve economic independence through self-help groups, with the goal of making at least two crore women lakhpatis across the country.

Honouring women’s achievementsNational conference on women

The programme will set a new milestone in policing, as all aspects of law and order, as well as event management, will be handled by women police officers and staff. A total of 2,165 women constables, 187 women PIs, 61 women PSIs, 19 women DYSPs, 5 women DSPs, 1 woman IGP and 1 woman ADGP will take charge of the event to ensure its smooth execution.

Honouring women’s achievements

Every year, the world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8 to honuor women’s contributions in various fields, raise awareness about gender equality and promote empowerment and fairness. The day also highlights women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements while advocating for their rights globally.

India has made major progress in empowering women through initiatives that promote education, healthcare, economic independence and security. Moving from the concept of women’s development to women-led development, the central government has placed women at the centre of its socio-economic progress.

National conference on women

On Saturday, March 8, the Government of India will organise a national-level conference at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, under the theme ‘Nari Shakti se Vikas Bharat’. President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the event in the presence of Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi, Minister of State Savitri Thakur and other senior officials.

Representatives from international organisations such as UNICEF and UN Women, along with women from the armed forces, police, and various key sectors, will also participate. The #SheBuildsBharat campaign will be launched to honour women’s contributions to nation-building.
