Uttarakhand: Body worn cameras for traffic squad to prevent MVA violations ahead of Char Dham Yatra

Dehradun: Ahead of the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, the state’s transport department has swung into action to equip the bike squads, flying squads, and enforcement squads with the Body Worn Cameras to ensure proper monitoring of vehicles during their checking.

For this purpose, the government may allocate a separate fund in the budget. The transport department aims to record all the activities during the routine checking of all the vehicles. The state police forces are also likely to be equipped with body worn cameras. The government also wants to ensure online recording of the checking of the vehicles.

Efforts to stop violation of Motor Vehicle Act

The growing graph of the road accidents across the state has apparently prompted the state government to adopt a tough stand against the violations of the Motor Vehicle Rules. Apart from deploying the bike squads, the state’ transport department is under a plan to increase the number of enforcement squads during the upcoming Char Dham Yatra.

Proper recording of the activities during the checking of vehicles

The problem with the police personnel is that they generally face the allegations of harassing the drivers during the checking of their vehicles. Of late, this always leads to a heated exchange of words between the drivers of the vehicles and the officers concerned of the transport department as well as the police personnel during the normal checking of vehicles on the roads. However, it is difficult for the officers of the transport department and the police personnel to get concrete evidence of such incidents.

Body worn cameras to be equipped with memory cards

Recently, The Body Worn Cameras were purchased to enable the personnel associated with the traffic, transport, and police departments, to record such incidents from the road safety funds by the state’s transport department. The general allegations that officers, who are tasked to check the vehicles, face that they harass the driver/owners of the vehicles. Now, the state government wants to purchase an adequate number of Body Worn Cameras to ensure the record of the activities of the drivers concerned during the checking of vehicles. Memory cards will be available with these cameras to record all the activities of the drivers during the checking.
