New Delhi: You Tuber Ranveer Allahabadia, known as BeerBiceps, who is in the eye of storm over his obscene and vulgar remarks made in the show India’s Got Latent, has moved the Supreme Court challenging multiple cases registered against him in various parts of country and clubbing of the First Information Reports (FIRs).
Allahabadia’s plea was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna by advocate Abhinav Chandrachud seeking urgent listing of the matter.
What did the CJI-headed bench say?
CJI Khanna, however, refused the request made by Allahabadia’s lawyer, saying oral mentioning of cases is not permitted.
Chandrachud told the bench that there are multiple FIRs being filed against Allahabadia.
“We have already given a date,” CJI Khanna said.
When Chandrachud insisted, CJI Khanna made it clear saying, no oral mentioning is permitted and that it is a fresh matter and a date has been given.
What did Allahabadia say?
Allahabadia asked a contestant on the show India’s Got Latent, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?”
Following the uproar over Allahabadia’s vulgar remarks, complaints were made against him in various parts of the country.
FIR was registered by Assam Police
While the Mumbai Police is conducting an inquiry into the matter, the Assam Police registered an FIR against five people, including Allahbadia and comedian Samay Raina, in connection with the remarks made on the show India’s Got Latent.
The FIR in Assam was registered on the basis of a complaint made by one Alok Boruah, who said that the remarks on the show caused “serious harm to public decency”. The case was filed with the Guwahati Crime Branch under sections the BNS pertaining to insulting a woman’s modesty and “obscene acts” as well as the Information Technology (IT) Act and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
