New Delhi: AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticised BJP-led Delhi government, accusing it of failing to manage the city’s power supply within just three days of assuming office. Speaking to the media, she highlighted numerous complaints from residents about long and frequent power outages across the city since February 8.
Atishi said, “For the past three days, since February 8, complaints of power cuts have been coming from different parts of Delhi. Social media is flooded with such grievances.” She mentioned that areas like Sainik Enclave, Mohan Garden, Sunlight Colony, Radhapur, Vikaspuri, and KG Pur faced outages ranging from two to six hours, while some areas, such as Uttam Nagar and Vikas Nagar Extension, experienced power cuts overnight. Even a BJP worker from Sangam Vihar tweeted about a six-hour-long power failure.

During AAP’s tenure, power was closely monitored: Atishi
The AAP leader contrasted the current state of electricity with the situation during her party’s tenure, emphasizing that power cuts were rare when AAP government supervised the power sector. “This power collapse shows that during AAP’s tenure, the power sector was closely monitored and well-managed. Within three days of BJP taking over, the sector has collapsed,” she said.
She also pointed out that residents have started buying inverters after years of not needing them. Atishi said, “Several people expressed regret over voting for BJP, realizing that the party is unable to manage governance effectively. Some said, ‘It’s only February, a month without high AC or cooler usage. If this is happening now, what will happen in May or June during peak demand?’”
Power woes in BJP-ruled states: Atishi
Criticizing BJP’s governance track record, Atishi said, “From 1993 to 1998, when BJP governed Delhi, electricity was in poor condition. Today, in the 20 states ruled by BJP, power issues are widespread.” She added that under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, who is an engineer, AAP government maintained uninterrupted electricity services.
She described BJP’s government as one of “fake degrees and gaali galoch,” drawing a sharp contrast to what she called AAP’s educated and capable leadership. She alleged that BJP is trying to turn Delhi into Uttar Pradesh with frequent power cuts. Atishi said that Delhi residents are already witnessing the difference in governance quality within days of the BJP taking charge, urging citizens to reflect on their changes.
