New Delhi: The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government all set to enhance the stamp duty concession scheme for women, offering them financial relief on property registrations. Under the revised policy, women purchasing properties up to Rs 1 crore will receive a 1 per cent concession on stamp duty, an increase from the current limit of Rs 10 lakh.

According to stamp and court fee registration minister Ravindra Jaiswal, the government is committed to women’s empowerment and has introduced several initiatives in this regard. The latest measure aims to encourage property ownership among women, making them financially stronger.

From 7 per cent stamp duty to 6 per cent

At present, properties valued at up to Rs 90 lakh attract a 7 per cent stamp duty, while properties priced at Rs 10 lakh or less are subject to a 6 per cent duty. The move aligns with the central government’s budgetary focus on women’s welfare, and Uttar Pradesh anticipates financial support from these provisions. Previously, the state facilitated the transfer of nearly Rs 4 lakh crore worth of property to women through a nominal Rs 5,000 gift deed scheme.

Announcement likely during budget session

The Uttar Pradesh government’s stamp duty and registration department has finalised preparations for the revised concession, and the proposal is expected to receive cabinet approval soon. A discussion on this will take place in the upcoming state budget session from February 18. The state budget will be presented on February 20.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to announce the decision officially, delivering financial relief to women homebuyers. Minister Jaiswal reiterated the government’s commitment to this initiative, stating that the revised concession will be formally approved in the upcoming cabinet meeting.
