New Delhi: The swearing-in ceremony for Delhi’s new chief minister is expected to take place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his ongoing visit to the United States next week, sources within the BJP said. The event is set to be a grand affair, marking the party’s return to power in the national capital after 26 years. Chief Ministers from all NDA-ruled states are likely to be invited, the sources added, as per an NDTV report.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to meet BJP president JP Nadda today to deliberate on the formation of the government in Delhi. That apart, state BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva will convene a meeting with the party’s 48 newly elected MLAs later in the day. According to sources, discussions regarding the oath-taking ceremony and government formation were held at the BJP headquarters last evening between PM Modi, Shah and Nadda.

Parvesh Verma engages as frontrunner

While the party leadership has not yet named its Chief Ministerial pick, Parvesh Verma, the newly elected MLA from New Delhi, has emerged as a strong contender. His victory over Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, a three-time MLA from the constituency, has cemented his position as a key figure in the party’s Delhi unit.

A former two-term MP from West Delhi, Verma was denied a Lok Sabha ticket last year. However, he entered the Assembly elections, secured a win against Kejriwal by 4,000 votes and reinforced his political standing. He is the son of the late Sahib Singh Verma, who previously served as Delhi chief minister. After the BJP’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, Mr. Verma attributed the victory to the people’s trust in the party’s governance model.

“This is not just my personal success; it is the victory of Delhi’s citizens who have chosen truth over falsehoods, governance over theatrics, and progress over empty promises. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every voter who placed their confidence in me,” he said.

He further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, and BJP chief Nadda, the party would strive to bring significant reforms to Delhi. “This mandate reflects the public’s desire for clean, transparent, and development-focused governance. My commitment to serving with honesty and dedication remains steadfast,” Verma added

PM Modi thanks voters

Prime Minister Modi, in a statement, thanked Delhi’s electorate for reposing faith in what he termed “Modi ki Guarantee” and vowed to steer the capital towards a renewed path of progress. “Delhi is the gateway to the nation and deserves world-class infrastructure,” he said.
