New Delhi: The Delhi Police detained two employees from the Delhi Chief Minister’s office after Rs 5 lakh in cash was found from them, just hours ahead of voting in the 70 assembly constituencies across the national capital.

According to Delhi Police officials, acting on a tip-off about the persons allegedly carrying cash, a Flying Squad Team (FST) swung into action and nabbed the two employees.

What the preliminary information indicates

Ravi Kumar Singh, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) South East, was quoted as saying by ANI that they got a call that some people were nabbed with Rs 5 lakh, after which the police team reached there. “FST (Flying Squad Team) handed over two men, namely Gaurav and Ajit…both are attached to (Delhi) CM office, as per the preliminary information.”

The DCP added that the team had seized Rs 5 lakh from the duo. “Further investigation is underway…we are investigating the source of the money, where it was brought from, and where they were taking it…as per what we have got to know till now, one of the men was working as an assistant of CM’s PA and the other one is a driver,” he said.

Taking to X, DEO/DM South-East confirmed the incident, pointing out,”FST team found two individuals, Mr Gaurav and Mr. Ajit Singh, in a car with Rs 5 lakhs. Mr Gaurav stated that the money was received from Mr Pankaj, PA to Ms Atishi, for booth management in Giri Nagar, Kalkaji(AC). Cash has been seized and police is further investigating it.”

Voting is underway across 13,766 polling stations in all the 70 Assembly constituencies to decide the fate of 699 candidates. The AAP is aiming for a third consecutive term, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making a strong push to regain control of the capital after more than 25 years.
