New Delhi: A faceoff between the Centre and the Opposition is set to be witnessed in the Lok Sabha as Prime Minister Narendra Modi replies to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address on Tuesday, during which he may target Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on India-China border row and PM’s invite to the US.

The prime minister is also likely to rake up the issue of Sonia Gandhi’s recent remarks on President Droupadi Murmu for which BJP’s tribal MPs have submitted a breach of privilege notice to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar for using “derogatory and slanderous” words against Murmu.

In a video clip circulating on social media, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were seen discussing the speech in the Parliament complex on Friday.

“The poor lady, the President, was getting very tired by the end… she could hardly speak, poor thing,” Sonia Gandhi was heard saying in the video.

Both Houses convened at 11 am, and PM Modi is expected to speak at around 5 pm.

Rahul’s attack on Modi government during Lok Sabha speech

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi said an INDIA bloc government would not have sent its foreign minister to the US to request an invitation for the prime minister to attend Donald Trump’s “coronation.” His remarks prompted a sharp response from the BJP, which accused him of spreading “falsehoods.”

Speaking as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi denied the presence of Chinese forces on Indian territory, whereas the Army held a differing view.

Further, he alleged that nearly 70 lakh voters — equivalent to the population of Himachal Pradesh — were added to the electoral rolls in Maharashtra between the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. He called on the Election Commission to provide relevant data to opposition parties in the state.

The BJP hit back fiercely at Rahul, calling his claims “false and objectionable” and saying that he professed his love for China by mentioning the country 35 times in his speech.
