Rajasthan: Over 250 people were hospitalized after consuming food at mass weddings

Udaipur: More than 250 people were hospitalised due to food poisoning after they had dinner at a mass wedding in Rajasthan’s Udaipur and Bharatpur. Among those who took included mostly women and children.

As per officials, the MB Hospital in Udaipur set up a new emergency ward for these patients who had attended a mass wedding in Dhanmand. While 27 patients have been discharged so far, a 15-year-old girl remains critical.

‘People started feeling symptoms of food poisoning after taking dinner’

According to doctors, after consuming the food, patients started feeling symptoms of food poisoning in like vomiting, nausea, and diarrhoea. An additional team of doctors have also been deployed at the hospital to treat patients.

Organisers of the event had prepared feast for nearly 6,000 guests , who were from Udaipur and neighbouring districts of the state. As soon as patients were admitted in the hospital a large number people gathered at the hospital and started creating chaos. A police team have also been deployed to deployed at the hospital.

As per MB Hospital superintendent RL Suman, while 30 patients were received in the beginning, the number soon crossed 200 in an hour. While pointing out that the situation was under control, he added that the critically ill child was admitted to the pediatric ICU.

Women, and children with low immunity suffered the most: Medical officer

Speaking further, Deputy Chief Medical Health Officer Omprakash Raipuria pointed out that women and children who have low immunity were most affected. Officials would collect food samples on Monday, after which the cause of food poisoning will be determined, he added further.

Recently, a total of 23 students fell ill at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Gurukul school in Karimnagar district of Telangana after eating dinner. They The students reportedly had cauliflower curry and Sambar for dinner, after which started vomiting, and were facing abdominal pain.
