New Delhi: In good news for commuters, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is all set to be operated soon. Once the expressway way becomes operational, the travel time between Delhi to Dehradun will go down to 2.5 hours instead of the current 6.5 hours. The expressway is being built at a total cost of Rs 13,000 crore.
As per officials, the 210-kilometer-long expressway will pass through, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. . Once comes into being, the express way will provide faster connectivity between two cities. The 6-lane Greenfield Access Controlled Expressway was earlier scheduled to be completed in December 2024.
The expressway will boost the local economy
Apart from reducing the time for commuters, the expressway will also help in developing the economy of the region. The trucks carrying fruits, vegetables, and other items will reach their destinations at a quicker time. It will also help in enhancing tourism in Rishikesh and Haridwar.
Notably, the expressway is being built in three phases. It will include 113 underpasses, 5 railway overbridges, and a 12-km elevated wildlife corridor. Phase I and Phase IV of the expressway are ready for use. Apart from connecting Delhi and Dehradun, the expressway will also link cities like Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur. It will also pass through Ghaziabad.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is close to Eastern Peripheral Expressway
The location is also close to major highways like the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, helping to create creating between road network in the northern part of the country. Importantly, the key highlight of the project is the eco-sensitive Raja Ji National Park. The last 20 km expressway will feature Asia’s longest 12-km elevated wildlife corridor.
