Rs 2,500 monthly grant for women, LPG at Rs 500: Congress rolls out manifesto for Delhi assembly polls

New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday released its manifesto a week ahead of the Delhi assembly elections. The manifesto promises a monthly monetary grant of Rs 2,500 for women, free health insurance coverage of up to Rs 25 lakh, and a slew of welfare benefits. The party has also vowed to offer LPG cylinders at Rs 500, provide free ration kits, and supply 300 units of free electricity to households. The manifesto, divided into 22 focus areas, was launched by Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav, with Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh by his side.

Devendra Yadav also declared that the party would carry out a caste census and form a dedicated ministry for Purvanchalis if they win the elections. The manifesto promises to back educated unemployed youth with financial assistance of Rs 8,500 per month for one year. Besides, the party has proposed setting up 100 Indira canteens across the city to offer affordable food for just Rs 5.

Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maken stated that the manifesto stresses on Congress’ track record of governance in Delhi and other states ruled by the party. The party has already unveiled five guarantees, including a monthly scholarship of Rs 8,500 for unemployed youth, highlighting its emphasis on welfare initiatives.
