New Delhi: Since Donald Trump began his second term as President of the United States, concerns have grown within the Indian immigrant community. The ambiguity surrounding potential shifts in immigration regulations, particularly for individuals on temporary visas like H1-B, has led to widespread unease. Trump’s history of enforcing strict immigration policies has amplified these worries.

In an unsettling incident at Newark Airport, a couple of Indian parents were denied entry despite having B-1/B-2 visitor visas. Their plan was to visit their children in the US for five months. However, upon arrival, immigration officers told them that a return ticket is now a mandatory requirement, as per new 2025 regulations.

Despite their attempts to explain their situation, the parents were sent back to India directly from the airport. The incident has left many Indian travellers confused, as US authorities have not issued an offisscial statement regarding the sudden policy change.

No warning given

The sudden enforcement of this regulation has raised concerns among international travelers. Immigration officials at the airport cited the new 2025 regulations as the reason for refusing entry to the parents. However, the lack of prior public communication or official announcement about the rule has left many in confusion.

Trump’s tighter grip

The development has sparked alarm within the Indian community and among potential visitors to the US. Many are now worried about other unexpected measures that could be imposed at entry points. Given President Trump’s reputation for strict immigration enforcement, travelers are now being advised to take extra precautions. Ensuring that all necessary documents, including return tickets and proof of travel plans, are in place is now crucial to avoid such complications.
