Dehradun: Six former chief ministers could not vote in the Uttarakhand civic elections. Only one former CM and Haridwar MP, Trivendra Singh Rawat, could exercise his right to vote in the civic elections.
On the day of voting for the civic elections on Thursday, the issue of former CM and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat related to the voter list remained in the headlines. It has also remained a topic of discussion on social media throughout the day. By the time his name could be confirmed in the voter list, the voting period had passed, depriving him of his vote.
Harish Rawat was not the only former CM who could not vote
However, Harish Rawat was not the only former Chief Minister who did not vote. Senior BJP leaders and former Chief Ministers were also included in this list. Former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari, having a vote in Pithoragarh, could not vote due to his name being incorrectly listed. Former CM Major General (Retired) BC Khanduri is unwell and undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Dehradun. Former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank is busy campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections. Former CM Vijay Bahuguna is unwell and in Delhi. Only former CM Trivendra Rawat voted at the Defense Colony booth in Dehradun.

Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami and former Chief Minister Tirath Rawat are not voters in the civic area, so they do not have voting rights in the civic elections. Dhami’s vote is in Gram Panchayat Nagla Tarai (Khatima), while former CM Tirath Rawat’s vote is in Gram Sabha Siro (Pauri).
Koshyari’s name was wrongly published in the voter list
Former Maharashtra Governor and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari could not vote in the first municipal elections after the formation of the corporation. He was deprived of the right to vote due to his name being incorrectly mentioned in the voter list. Former Governor Koshyari had come to participate in the voting for Pithoragarh Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
He mentioned that two days ago, he inspected the voter list and found his name wrongly published, while his father’s name was correctly recorded. Since the formation of the state, Koshyari has always come to vote in the assembly, Lok Sabha, and municipal elections. This is the first time he was present in Pithoragarh and was deprived of voting rights due to his name being wrongly published in the voter list.
