Mokama firing incident: Ex-MLA Anant Singh surrenders, sent to 14-day judicial custody

Patna: Former Bihar MLA Anant Singh surrendered before the Barh civil court on Friday two days after the Mokama firing incident. He has been sent to 14-day judicial custody. The police have also arrested two individuals identified as Sonu Singh and Roshan for the January 22 incident. The firing reportedly took place when Anant Singh reached Nauranga village along with his men to settle some disputes.

Anant Singh had reportedly escaped unhurt in the firing incident on Wedesay. According to the police, the firing took place at the house of Mukesh Singh. The firing took place after his house was locked and opened, This led to heavy exchange of fire between Anant Singh’s supporters and Mukesh Singh’s supporters.

It may be noted that Sonu and Monu used to work for Anant Singh at one point in time. However, when Anant Singh went to jail, the two broke their ties with him and formed a gang of their own. The gang used to commit crimes in the locality and was also trying to create its dominance in the area.

Notably, Sonu-Monu was also a brick kiln business. They had reportedly hired Mukesh as a manager to handle thier business. Mukesh had allegedly embezzled Rs 65 lakh related to Sonu-Monu’s business.

Ananth Singh’s failed attempt to convince Sonu-Monu

However, when Sonu and Monu charged Mukesh over it, the latter approached Ananth Singh on the issue. When Anant Singh approached Sonu and Monu over the matter and refused to hear Anant Singh. Soon, Anant Singh reached the house of Mukesh and met him, Sonu-Monu was also present there at the time.

During the discussions, when Anant Singh tried to convince Somnu and Monu, both started arguing and left for their house in Tauranga. In the meantime, Anant Singh’s supporters too reached there. Soon after, both sides started firing at each other, which continued for nearly about half an hour. Around 70 to 80 rounds of bullets were fired, police said.
