Dehradun: Around 700 players from Uttarakhand will participate in various sports in the 38th National Games, beginning from January 28. All players have been registered on the portal of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for their participation in the National Games.
Uttarakhand, which is hosting the National Games 2025, has directly qualified in different sports events of the National Games. The representation of the hill state is set to increase this time in the National Games 2025.
177 players participated in the Goa National Games
177 players and 63 officials had participated in the 37th national games which were held in Goa in 2023. Since 700 players from Uttarakhand participate in the National Games 2025, the hopes are high for the presence of the hill state at the top of the medal table this time. The selection trials for all sports have been completed. Earlier, the sports associations concerned had sent the list of their players to the national federations. The national federations have cleared the list of players.
Golf dropped from the National Games 2025
Meanwhile, the sports secretariat has already released the schedule for the national games 2025. However, there was confusion over four games- Handball, Volleyball, Taekwondo, and Golf. Golf has been dropped from the National Games this time for now. The sports associations, related to the remaining three games, have been asked to finalize the players and register within three days.
High-level meeting in the sports secretariat
On Tuesday, a high-level meeting was also held in the state secretariat to give final touch to the ongoing preparation for the National Games 2025. Apart from the Chef de Mission, those who are associated with the Games Technical Conduct Committee and National Games Organizing Committee attended the meeting. At the meeting, the progress in the preparation of sports events, accommodation of players, logistic management, and the outline of the programme were mainly discussed. Detailed discussions were held on the smooth conduct of the games.
