New Delhi: Laurene Powell Jobs, the wife of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, has developed allergies on her second day at the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. However, she will participate in the ritual of taking a holy dip in the Ganga river.

Spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri on Tuesday was quoted as saying by ANI, “She will participate in the ritual of taking a dip (at the Sangam). She is resting in my ‘shivir’. She has some allergies. She has never been to such a crowded place. She is quite simple. She stayed with us during the pooja. Our tradition is such that those who have never seen it – they all want to join.”

“She has a lot of questions related to ‘Sanatan’, and we will try our best to answer her questions,” Giri added.

On Monday, Ms Jobs arrived in Prayagraj to take part in the Maha Kumbh, world’s biggest religious congregation. Rechristened ‘Kamala’ by Giri, she will stay in the Kumbh tent city at the Niranjani Akhara camp until January 15. Later, she will return to the United States to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20.

As Laurene continued her spiritual odyssey in India, a letter written by her late husband, Steve Jobs, to his childhood friend Tim Brown went for almost Rs 4.32 crore in an auction in the US, according to an India Today report. In his letter dated February 23, 1974, Steve Jobs wrote: “I wish to go to India for the Kumbh Mela.”

‘Over 1 crore devotees take holy dip’

Braving intense cold and dense fog, lakhs of devotees thronged the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Tuesday to take a holy dip called the ‘Amrit Snan’ to mark Makar Sankranti festival.

The Uttar Pradesh government reported that over one crore devotees took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. The state information department stated that the first day of the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela conveyed the message of “unity and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).
