‘The real India’: Foreigners hail lakhs of gathering at Maha Kumbh on first day

Prayagraj: With the Maha Kumbh Mela starting today in Prayagraj after much wait, over 60 lakh people have already taken a holy dip at the Sangam. Devotees from various parts of India and abroad are thronging in the holy city to take bath and attend other rituals .

Apart from those from across the country, a large number of foreigners are also gathering in the city. They can be seen not only praising the Maha Kumbh Mela but also praising the authorities in Prayagraj for keeping the city clean.

Speaking to ANI, Christine, a Russian citizen said, “Namaste. Aaap kaise ho? While I am from Russia, I work and live in Europe. India is just great. We came to Kumbh Mela first time in life. This is just big. Very excited to be here. You see the real India here. The true power of India is its people. Look around. There’s thousands and thousands of people.”

“I came to India for the first time… I practice Yoga and I am searching for moksha. It’s amazing here; India is the spiritual heart of the world… The water is cold, but the heart is filled with warmth,” said Francisco, a Brazilian devotee who too came to India for the first time.

A devotee from South Africa’s Cape Town said, “The Maha Kumbh Mela is so beautiful. The streets of Prayagraj are clean. The people are extremely friendly and happy. We practice Sanatan Dharma.” “It’s very very powerful and we are very blessed to be here.”

Over 60 lakh devotees took a holy dip till this morning: Official

Notably, over 60 lakh devotees took the holy dip at the Maha Kumbh till 9:30 AM this morning, the government said in a statement on Monday. PM Narendra Modi took to X earlier in the day to greet the nation at the start of the Maha Kumbh. In his message, the PM also referred to Maha Kumbh as India’s timeless spiritual heritage.
